IMEI & Serial Verification

How Gadget Trade records device identifiers, verification checks and authenticity-related signals while protecting sensitive identifiers.

Device identifiers

Eligible device listings can record an IMEI, serial number or both. Gadget Trade stores a protected representation of the identifier for verification workflows and may display only a limited suffix to authorised users rather than exposing the full identifier publicly.

Verification status

  • Not checked — no verification result has been recorded.
  • Pending — a verification request is being processed.
  • Verified — the configured verification source returned a positive result.
  • Flagged — the verification process returned a concern requiring review.
  • Unavailable — an authoritative check could not be completed.

Stolen or blocked-device checks

Gadget Trade prohibits stolen or unlawfully obtained devices. Where an authorised blacklist or device-status provider is connected, its result can be recorded with the provider reference and timestamp. A marketplace listing must not describe a device as “officially clean” merely because an external check was unavailable.

Privacy and security

Full IMEI and serial values should not be posted in public descriptions, comments or screenshots. Gadget Trade uses protected identifier representations in its application records so that verification workflows can operate without unnecessarily publishing sensitive device identifiers.

What a verification result means

A successful verification result describes the result returned by the configured source at the time of the check. It does not establish legal title by itself and does not guarantee that a device will remain unreported, unblocked or free of every hardware issue after the check.
